Genre: YA, Paranormal
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (3.5 stars)
If you liked:
⁃ Coraline (book version) & City of Bones
⁃ Paranormal stories
⁃ Character driven stories

What I liked:
⁃ The setting. I loved Gallant and what was beyond the wall.
⁃ The characters. My fave was Olivia. I liked that she wasn’t your typical MC. Not only was she brave and cunning, but she couldn’t speak. She could, however, hear.
⁃ The illustrations, letters and parts with the black pages.
⁃ The audio narrator did a fantastic job at telling this story.
What I didn’t like:
⁃ It was slow burn. I used the audiobook as a companion to help speed things up.
If the story had the same pace as the last 30%, It could have easily have been a 4 or 5 star read for me.
⁃ Read more like middle grade than YA. I actually had to double check to see whether this was in fact YA , and not MG.
Overall, the story was interesting enough to keep me invested, and I’m glad I stuck it out till the end.
Have you read this one? What was your fave VE Schwab book?
